BOISE, Idaho — A major winter storm will move into the area on Friday, bringing rain and snow to the Treasure Valley and significant snow accumulation to the mountains.

A Winter Storm Watch will be in effect for the mountains from Thursday evening through Saturday morning, with four to 12 inches of snow falling in the mountain valleys and as much as two feet in the higher areas.

Boise, Meridian, and the rest of the Treasure Valley will see a rain-snow mix into the weekend, but snow is not expected to stick. Warmer temperatures will return next week, with highs in the 50's.

Those traveling through the mountains Friday and Saturday are advised to use caution and be prepared for icy and hazardous road conditions, particularly above 4,000 feet. Wind and blowing snow should also be expected, with gusts up to 40 mph in some areas.
