Man arrested after hours-long SWAT standoff in Caldwell

Around midnight, Rafael Antonio Garcia Lopez was peacefully taken into custody. Police said he's charged with domestic battery and intimidating a witness.

BOISE, Idaho — A man suspected of aggravated battery was arrested Sunday by Caldwell's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team after an hours-long standoff, authorities said. 

The Caldwell Police Department said in a news release Monday they had an arrest warrant for the suspect for an alleged aggravated battery on Saturday. They attempted to arrest the suspect at a home on the 5100 block of Northrup Way in Caldwell, which turned into a standoff. 

Around midnight on Sunday, Police said after hours of trying to gas him out of the home and negotiations, they peacefully took Rafael Antonio Garcia Lopez into custody without further incident.

Lopez is charged with domestic battery with traumatic injury and intimidating a witness.
