Boise Airport launches new nonstop route to California's wine country

Starting this spring, Avelo Airlines will provide nonstop flights from Boise to California's vast wine country region, the airlines' second nonstop route from BOI.

BOISE, Idaho — A representative with Avelo Airlines was in Boise Wednesday to announce a new nonstop route from Boise to Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, beginning in May.

Boise Airport (BOI) Airport Director Rebecca Hupp joined Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy to reveal the nonstop flight that will take passengers directly from BOI to Charles M. Shultz Sonoma County Airport (STS) two days a week.

The first nonstop flight takes off May 2, just in time for the busy summer travel season.

"With the addition of this exclusive nonstop service, getting to the Bay Area and California Wine Country is now more affordable and easier than ever for travelers in southwest Idaho," Levy said. "This new route will also make getting from the Bay Area and Sonoma County to Boise a faster and smoother experience.”

Sonoma County offers a variety of attractions, the region is particularly known for its vast vineyards and wineries. Introductory one-way fares between BOI and STS will start at $62 and are available on the Avelo Airlines website.

Ahead of the much-anticipated news conference, officials provided no hints as to where the newly added route will lead. Guests from local news outlets were invited to attend the launch of the new service.

"We're thrilled to see Avelo announce new nonstop summer service to Sonoma County, California starting this May. Sonoma offers an unmatched weekend getaway, from renowned wineries to stunning redwood forests—and we're excited to share them with our passengers," Hupp said.

Avelo's Boeing Next-Generation (NG) 737 aircraft will offer Idahoans a direct path to Sonoma County every Thursday and Sunday to the Sonoma airport, which Levy said is "the Bay Area's best airport."

“We have been very encouraged by the positive reception Avelo has received in Boise and are excited to add this second popular California destination," Levy said.

Avelo Airlines first partnered with BOI in May of 2022, when it began offering flights from Boise to Los Angeles airport – Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR). Those flights are also offered twice weekly, on Mondays and Fridays.

With the new addition, BOI's nine airlines will offer nonstop flights to 26 destinations across the United States, with connecting flights to thousands of cities worldwide.
