PENDLETON, Ore. — A section of Interstate 84 has reopened after being blocked Thursday morning due to extreme winter weather conditions in the area.

According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, the eastbound and westbound highway is back open between Pendleton and La Grande.

High winds, blowing snow, and dangerous whiteout conditions were reported in the area earlier in the day, spurring the shutdown. Road crews say visibility in some areas was zero, with multiple trucks spun out alongside the roadway.

Highway 204 remains shut down. According to ODOT, a foot of snow has fallen in the area.

Drivers are asked to use caution and be prepared for winter driving conditions.
