Former Bronco, Burley graduate Jace Whiting transfers to UNLV

The former Burley High standout is staying in the Mountain West, joining the Runnin' Rebels after appearing in all 33 of Boise State's games this past season.

BOISE, Idaho — Former Boise State guard and Idaho product Jace Whiting is staying in the Mountain West, announcing his commitment to UNLV on social media Tuesday evening.

Whiting joins the Runnin' Rebels via the transfer portal after appearing in all 33 games during the Broncos' 2023-2024 campaign as a sophomore. He announced his departure from the City of Trees at the end of March.

The Burley High School graduate averaged 3.3 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game this past season, while shooting 48.2% from the floor and 50.0% from the 3-point line. The junior-to-be played at least 16 minutes in 15 games and posted an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.6.

Whiting started in six games during non-conference play before coming off the bench for the final three months of the season. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound guard scored 10 points in Boise State's late-season win at Wyoming, tying a career-high set against UNLV as a freshman.

"We couldn't be more excited for Jace to join the Runnin' Rebel family," UNLV head coach Kevin Kruger said. "He is a tough, battle-tested Mountain West guard that we expect to have a tremendous impact for us on both ends of the floor. He is comfortable playing on and off the ball and his versatility is something that will be incredibly valuable."

UNLV went 21-13 overall and 12-6 in Mountain West play in 2023-2024, earning a postseason invite for the first time since 2013. The Runnin' Rebels 84-77 win over Princeton in the first round of the NIT marked their first postseason win in 16 years.

As a freshman at Boise State, Whiting averaged 3.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists. His Bronco career included 66 games played and 11 starts.

After moving to the Gem State from Utah, Whiting was a two-time All-Great Basin League selection at Burley and finished his prep career as the Bobcats' all-time scoring leader with 1,430 points.

He landed on the All-Idaho First Team as a senior after averaging head-turning statistics with 24.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game. Following graduation in 2020, Whiting spent two years in Finland serving an LDS mission.
