Lori Vallow Daybell extradited from Idaho prison to Arizona jail

Lori Vallow Daybell is no longer imprisoned in Idaho. Court records show the "Doomsday Mom" was booked into a Maricopa County jail on Wednesday.

IDAHO, USA — Lori Vallow Daybell was extradited to an Arizona jail Wednesday from Idaho, where she has been in custody since her July sentencing to life in prison for the murders of two of her children and conspiracy to murder her husband's first wife.

Aside from her conviction in Idaho, Vallow faces two additional conspiracy to commit murder charges in Maricopa County, Arizona, relating to the death of her former husband and in the shooting of another relative who survived.

One charge is from a case in Chandler, connected to the death of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow.

In May, an additional indictment was unsealed for a case out of Gilbert, revealing that Vallow is facing a second conspiracy to commit murder charge for allegedly trying to kill her niece's ex-husband, Brandon Boudreaux.

Court records show Lori Vallow Daybell was transferred from the Pocatello Women's Correctional Center Wednesday and booked at Maricopa County-Estrella Jail in Arizona - an all-female jail with approximately 1,500 inmates.

In an email to KTVB, Jeff Ray, public information officer for the Idaho Department of Corrections (IDOC), said "per the extradition agreement between Idaho and Arizona, IDOC transferred custody of Lori Vallow to Maricopa County, Arizona, yesterday [Wednesday] at Pocatello Women's Correctional Center, where she was incarcerated."

The transfer of custody occurred at 9:44 a.m. Wednesday.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office on Thursday held a news conference to discuss the extradition of Lori Vallow Daybell. It can be viewed in its entirety below:

Lori Vallow Daybell's Idaho Murder Trial

Lori Vallow Daybell, 50, was found guilty on six charges relating to the deaths of her 16-year-old daughter, Tylee Ryan, her 7-year-old son, JJ Vallow and Tammy Daybell, the then-wife of Vallow's now-husband, Chad Daybell.

Lori Vallow Daybell was convicted in May for conspiracy to commit murder and first-degree murder of two of her children, JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan – their remains were found on Vallow’s current husband, Chad Daybell’s, property on June 9, 2020.

Vallow was also found guilty of grand theft and conspiracy to murder Tammy Daybell, Chad Daybell’s wife at the time. A jury convicted Vallow in a six-week trial that ended May 12, 2023.

She was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in an Ada County courtroom in July.

Lori Vallow Daybell's trial started in April 2023. Throughout the proceedings, prosecutors in Idaho accused her, Chad Daybell and Lori's brother, Alex Cox, of conspiring to kill people who were "obstacles" to Chad and Lori's relationship.

Alex Cox died at his home in Gilbert in December 2019 before any charges were filed against Vallow.

On August 31, Vallow's attorneys filed 16 appeals, ranging from the grand jury indictment to her sentencing.

Background on Vallow's Arizona Extradition

Idaho Governor Brad Little signed extradition papers for Vallow in October 2023, allowing for her return to Arizona.

However, at the time of the signing, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said officials had made no arrangements and showed no inclination to obtain custody of Vallow until her pending appeals process in Idaho was complete - a process which is capable of taking months.

Three weeks ago, on Nov. 9, Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO) stated there was no timeline for extraditing Lori Vallow Daybell back to Arizona.

MCAO previously said they hoped she’d be back in Maricopa County by the end of the year to face the conspiracy to commit murder charges.

However, no further details were given of the extradition.

It's unclear when Vallow will appear in court on the Arizona charges.

The Arizona Charges

The first significant incident occurred in July 2019 when Charles Vallow was shot and killed by Cox, who originally told Chandler police that he had acted in self-defense. In light of all evidence that surfaced during Lori Vallow Daybell's trial in Idaho, investigators believe her and Cox were co-conspirators in her husband's death.

After Charles' death, Lori moved with her kids, Tylee and JJ, to Rexburg, Idaho, where Chad Daybell lived. Investigators believe the children were killed in September 2019.

In early October 2019, Brandon Boudreaux called 911 after someone tried to shoot at him.  He wasn't hit, but investigators believe it could have been Alex Cox pulling the trigger.

Lori married doomsday author Chad Daybell in November 2019 after Chad's first wife, Tammy, was killed just 17 days prior.

Investigators discovered Tylee and JJ's bodies buried in Chad Daybell's backyard in June 2020.

In May 2021, Chad and Lori were charged with murder and conspiracy in the death of her children. Chad was also charged with murdering his first wife, Tammy Daybell, while Lori was charged with conspiracy in Tammy's death.

Chad Daybell's triple murder trial will be broadcast live by the court after a judge amended a camera-ban on Wednesday.

Daybell's trial is scheduled for April 2024, although his attorney has several pending motions that could potentially alter the circumstances of the trial.
