Mother, son indicted on federal charges in connection with Nez Perce County murder

A 20-year-old man and his mother, both of Lapwai, are facing charges relating to the May murder of a man on the Nez Perce Indian Reservation.

LAPWAI, Idaho — William O. Eyle, 20, was arrested in Oregon Monday for repeatedly shooting and ultimately killing a man in May of 2023, according to U.S. Attorney Josh Hurwit.

The victim, referred to by the U.S Attorney's Office (USAO) as E.A., was killed on the Nez Perce Indian Reservation on "or about" May 12, according to a news release from USAO.

The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Eyle following an indictment issued on Oct.17. The indictment states that Eyle was charged in the U.S. District Court with one count of second-degree murder and one count for using a firearm to commit a violent crime.

In the same indictment, Eyle's mother, Jacinta Wheeler, 43, was charged for allegedly acting as an accessory to the crime.

The indictment claims that Wheeler cleaned out Eyle's vehicle following the murder and disposed of evidence. It also alleges that Wheeler assisted her son in leaving the scene of the crime on the reservation.

Wheeler's trial is scheduled for March 25, 2024. A trial date has yet to be set for Eyle.

If convicted of murder, Eyle faces a maximum penalty of life in federal prison.
