BOISE, Idaho — A logjam on the South Fork of the Payette River that created a hazard for kayakers and rafters for the past two months is finally gone.
It was located near mile marker 4 on the Banks-Lowman Road.
Officials wanted to remove the logjam before the rafting season on the South Fork got into full swing.
Last month, under the supervision of the Boise County Sheriff’s Office, Garden Valley Fire Department and U.S. Forest Service, the logjam was set on fire to burn off as much of it as possible.
This came after there were several incidents with boats near the logjam, including one situation where a kayaker came out of her boat. Luckily, she was able to swim to safety.
A contractor with machinery was brought in this week to remove the rest of the logjam from the river.
Boise County Emergency Management says river users can now safely pass through that section of the Payette River.
