U of I raises over $1 M during Vandal Giving Day shattering previous record amount

The U of I stated that this year's donations totaled $310,000 more than the previous record, set in 2023.

BOISE, Idaho — During an annual donation event held at the University of Idaho (UI), the event brought in a record-breaking amount, shattering the previous record.

UI said in a news release on Monday the 2024 Vandal Giving Day event raised over $1.1 million in donations. Compared to last year, donations totaled $310,000 more than the previous record, set in 2023.

"We are grateful for the many individuals and organizations that chose to make a difference for our hard-working students and high-quality programs during Vandal Giving Day," U of I President Scott Green said in a news release. "It's inspiring to see the worldwide Vandal Family come together in this way to make a powerful impact for our university and our state."

The UI states the event saw another record-breaking 2,324 donors from 41 U.S. states, as well as from Canada, Australia, South Africa, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, and the U.K. This was an increase of 505 donors compared to the previous year.

Vandal Giving Day began in 2016, and it's an online event meant to raise funds for scholarships, colleges and programs at the UI. The donation event is held for exactly 1889 minutes, which is the year the UI was founded, and it celebrates philanthropy, the UI states.
