BOISE -- A large stretch of Interstate 84 will be shut down overnight Monday and Tuesday as crews work to demolish the Cloverdale Road overpass.

The interstate will be closed in both directions between Eagle Road and the Flying Wye from 9 p.m. Monday night to 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, then again from 10 p.m. Tuesday night to 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The overpass was significantly damaged in a fiery June crash involving seven vehicles. A total of four people - a New York truck driver and three young airmen stationed at the Mountain Home Air Force Base - died in the pileup.

The Cloverdale Road overpass has been closed to traffic since the wreck.

Idaho Transportation Department spokesman Jake Melder said Franklin and Overland roads, which run parallel to I-84, are drivers' best bet for avoiding the nighttime closures.

"If you do plan on doing any overnight driving in this area, plan ahead," he said.

ITD and the Ada County Highway District hope to have the overpass reopened with one lane in each direction by mid-June 2019. Installing the new bridge will necessitate some interstate closures again this spring, but officials have not yet announced dates for that work.
