NAMPA, Idaho —
Police responded to a suspicious package found outside of the Nampa Hispanic Cultural Center Wednesday afternoon, closing Garrity Boulevard and putting surrounding businesses on lockdown.
The package turned out to be an empty suitcase.
The center is located at 315 Stampede Drive, just off Garrity Boulevard.
In a Facebook post, the Hispanic Center wrote that Stampede is currently blocked off.
"[I]n case you were planning to view the art exhibit, please wait for another day," the post reads. "Thanks for your understanding, we will keep you posted as to why the roads are blocked."
Alexandra Duggan, with the Idaho Press, reported that after an hour, Nampa Police Department’s bomb squad x-rayed the package to see what was inside, before deciding to disrupt, or blow up, the suitcase as a precaution. Police then used a robot to examine the fragments.
Police Captain Curt Shankel told the Idaho Press that “It’s all clear” and that disrupting a suspicious package, like the suitcase, is common practice.
Garrity Boulevard was then re-opened and the package was deemed no longer suspicious by Nampa police.
