PAYETTE COUNTY, Idaho — A 1,500-acre wildfire burning northeast of Payette has been fully contained as of Monday morning, officials say.

The blaze, reported Sunday morning near Little Willow and Dry Creek roads, was originally estimated at 5,000 acres, but the Payette County Sheriff's Office later said it was closer to 2,000. Firefighters extinguished a second, smaller fire in that area as well that burned about 85 acres.

Five fire departments total are currently working assigned to the larger fire, and are expected to continue putting out hot spots through Tuesday. Information on the smaller fire has not been released.

Payette County Sheriff's Office Lt. Andy Creech said lighting is the suspected cause of both fires.
