Vigils in several cities to be held for Deputy Tobin Bolter

Deputy Bolter died after sustaining a gunshot wound during a traffic stop. Now, the community wants to celebrate the life of the young deputy.

BOISE, Idaho — On Sunday, April 21, Ada County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) Deputy Tobin Bolter died after sustaining a gunshot wound during a traffic stop. Now, the community wants to celebrate the life of the young deputy. 

Tobin Bolter, 27, had served ACSO since January of this year, previously working with Meridian Police Department. 

Gestures to honor Deputy Bolter began within hours of his death, with a police procession and flowers and candles laying outside the Ada County Sheriff's Office in honor of Deputy Bolter. 

The City of Star hosted a candlelight vigil for Deputy Bolter on Tuesday, one of the first ones in the area:

The City of Middleton, where Bolter lived, also hosted a candlelight vigil on Wednesday night at Foote Park:

Several organizations have gathered to celebrate Bolter's life by hosting candlelight vigils. 

Below are a list of candlelight vigils being hosted in Bolter's memory: 

Valley County - Friday April 26 at 9 p.m. - Valley County Sheriff's Office

Blaine County - Monday April 29 at 5:30 - Blaine County PSF

For those interested in monetarily helping the Bolter family, there are a handful of entities raising funds. 

Several Southwest Idaho businesses are raising money for Deputy Bolter's family:

  • Locking Horns Riverside Restaurant - Horseshoe Bend : 10% of all sale proceeds from April 26-28 with support Deputy Bolter's family. Proceeds will be matched by the restaurant's owners. A donation box is set up all week.
  • Disciples Coffee - Garden City: All proceeds and tips from sales April 27th from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. will go to the Bolter family. 
  • Old State Saloon - Eagle: 50% of all sales April 23rd from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. will be donated to the Bolter family.
  • Sid's Garage - Boise and Meridian: 100% of burger sales on April 28th will be donated to the Bolter family. 

The ACSO said it has been overwhelmed by the support of the community. If people would like to donate directly to the families of fallen Deputy Tobin Bolter or injured Deputy Dallas Denney the ACSO offers the following options. Please specify to which deputy the donation should be directed to.
