'We have each other's backs': Community honors fallen Ada County deputy, shares support for family

A candlelight vigil is planned in Star on Tuesday night, one of the ways Deputy Tobin Bolter is being remembered across the region.

STAR, Idaho — Our community is mourning the loss of an Ada County Sheriff's Deputy who was killed in the line of duty.

Deputy Tobin Bolter, 27, died Sunday after being shot during a traffic stop in Boise. Now, people across the region are doing what they can to make sure his memory lives on.

Gestures to honor Deputy Bolter began within hours of his death, with a police procession and flowers and candles laying outside the Ada County Sheriff's Office in honor of Deputy Bolter.

Flags across the state are flying at half-staff, while the community is full of support for the fallen deputy.

"It's important to show solidarity with the family, and all the people that wear the badge," Star Mayor Trevor Chadwick said.

The City of Star has organized a candlelight prayer and vigil planned for Tuesday night at 9 p.m. at Hunter's Creek Park. Mayor Chadwick said it is an important time for the community to come together for our law enforcement.

"It's a tough time for all the people that wear the badge," Chadwick said. "And all the former folks that have worn the badge - we have a lot of those folks in our community as well. They live this every day, and it's important for the community to come together and show them that we all stand side-by-side with them and that we pray with them and love them as a community."

That support crosses counties.

A number of local businesses across the region are raising money for Deputy Bolter's family. One of those businesses is Locking Horns Riverside Restaurant in Horseshoe Bend. The restaurant is owned by Summer Ohler, a former law enforcement officer.

"We have each other's backs," Ohler said.

Locking Horns is fundraising and donating proceeds of sales to support Deputy Bolter's family. One of many gestures that Ohler says are important to show how our communities back law enforcement.

Multiple Southwest Idaho businesses are raising money for Deputy Bolter's family:
