Felony burglary suspect arrested after two-hour standoff in Meridian

A man wanted for failure to appear in court on a burglary charge barricaded himself in his car Tuesday night, but eventually gave up peacefully, police said.

MERIDIAN, Idaho — A man wanted on a felony failure-to-appear warrant stemming from a burglary charge was booked into jail after a two-hour standoff in Meridian, police said late Tuesday.

Meridian Police officers pulled over 35-year-old Gerardo Reyes-Alvarez of Nampa at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the area of North Burley Way and West Niemann Drive, which is near the southwest corner of Ten Mile and Ustick roads. According to the police department, he barricaded himself in his car and refused to cooperate with officers. He eventually surrendered after almost two hours of negotiations, police said.

Reyes-Alvarez was booked into the Ada County Jail on the failure-to-appear warrant. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of resisting and obstructing an officer.

In a news release sent late Tuesday night, the Meridian Police Department thanked Garden City Police and the Ada County Sheriff's Office for their assistance, and people living in the area where the standoff took place for their patience and cooperation.
