Memorial Day weekend fishing

No bass-lighting, Memorial Day weekend is often the first weekend people camp or go fishing.

IDAHO, USA — Memorial Day weekend is, of course, about honoring those who lost their lives while serving, but it's also a huge travel and camping weekend. And that includes fishing. According to the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG), the Memorial Day weekend actually "coincides with some prime fishing conditions, especially in many lakes and reservoirs."

IDFG states that May and June are the months when the department stocks the most amount of fish.

"Fish and Game is stocking 410,000 catchable rainbow trout in May, with nearly as many more to follow in June. Those are the two biggest stocking months because Fish and Game hatchery crews want there to be plenty of fish for anglers to catch throughout the state and it tends to be some of the best fishing conditions of the year," a news release stated.

The department also reminded people to have their fishing license. Learn more about licensing here.

People can go to the IDFG website for more information on stocking and fishing areas.
