BOISE, Idaho — Four-star wide receiver Gatlin Bair, the highest-rated football recruit in Idaho history, on Friday announced he is decommitting from Boise State.

The Burley High School standout became the top-rated prospect to ever commit to Boise State back on Aug. 5, prior to his senior season with the Bobcats. Bair previously elected to stay in the Gem State after narrowing his decision down to the Broncos, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon and TCU.

Bair on Friday said he is reopening his recruitment, considering Michigan and Oregon after electing to decommit from the Broncos. The decision comes more than three weeks after Boise State fired former head coach Andy Avalos on Nov. 12.

"First of all I want to thank all of the coaches, support staff and fans at Boise State for their support. Many elements have changed both at BSU and for myself since my commitment," Bair said on social media. "I want nothing but the best for all involved … I appreciate everyone's understanding and privacy for my family and I in this difficult decision. Thank you."

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound wideout is the nation's No. 35 ranked recruit in the class of 2024, and the ninth-ranked wide receiver, per 247Sports. Bair's .9811 247 Composite rating surpassed Dylan Sumner-Gardner, Boise State's previous No. 1 commitment of all time, who earned a .9623.

While he narrowed his decision down to five schools, the Idaho native picked up offers from across the country, including the likes of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Texas and Washington.

In June, Bair was named the 2022-2023 Gatorade Idaho Boys Track & Field Player of the Year. He became the first Bobcat runner to win the prestigious award. During the 4A state meet in May, Bair set state records in both the 100-meter (10.15 seconds) and 200-meter (20.56 seconds) races.

Bair will serve a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before arriving on campus at either Michigan or Oregon. The Ducks have the seventh-ranked 2024 recruiting class on 247Sports, while the Wolverines sit at No. 15.
