Former Washington cornerback Davon Banks commits to Boise State

Banks recorded four pass break-ups and two tackles in Washington's season-opening win over Boise State last fall.

BOISE, Idaho — Boise State football landed its third commitment out of the transfer portal this month on Wednesday in former University of Washington cornerback Davon Banks.

Banks recorded four pass break-ups and two tackles in the Huskies' season-opening win over the Broncos in September 2023. He was named the coaches' defensive skill player of the week for his performance against Boise State.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound defensive back appeared in two games last fall before missing the remainder of the season due to an upper-body injury, as reported by the Seattle Times. Banks tallied two tackles in Washington's win over Tulsa in week two.

Boise State's latest addition played in four games and redshirted the 2021 campaign, recording a tackle in the Apple Cup. Banks then saw action in eight contests as a redshirt freshman in 2022, posting 17 total tackles, an interception, two pass break-ups and a forced fumble.

The San Jacinto, California native has three years of eligibility remaining. Banks entered the transfer portal on April 19 and announced his commitment to the Broncos on social media Wednesday.

Banks was a three-star recruit and the No. 34 ranked cornerback in the class of 2021 on 247Sports. He was considered the No. 40 prospect in California in his respective recruiting class.

At the prep level at San Jacinto High, Banks played cornerback, safety and wide receiver, spending three years on the varsity roster. He was named Mountain Pass League MVP for his work during the abbreviated 2020-2021 season.

In five games as a senior, Banks recorded 19 tackles, an interception, four passes defended and two forced fumbles. He also turned 11 receptions into 261 yards and three touchdowns on offense.

Boise State earlier this month added a pair of tight ends out of the transfer portal in Connor Gilbreath (LSU) and Mitchell Bothwell (Villanova). The Broncos are scheduled to open the 2024 season on Saturday, Aug. 31 at Georgia Southern.
