Boise State gymnast heads to NCAA Championships for second-straight year

One year after a national runner-up performance on vault, Courtney Blackson is headed back to the NCAA Championships to represent the Broncos on bars.

BOISE, Idaho — Boise State senior Courtney Blackson continues to add record-setting achievements to her resume, and more opportunity awaits in the Lone Star State.

The NCAA on Monday announced the Bronco standout will compete in the National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships for the second-straight year. Blackson is one of 16 event specialists from outside of a qualifying team.

Blackson punched her ticket to nationals last week in Arkansas with a first-place finish on bars. She became the first Boise State gymnast to ever capture back-to-back NCAA Regional titles by scoring a 9.950. The performance also tied the program record for highest regional score.

The California native advanced to Fort Worth last spring as well, dazzling on her way to a first team All-American nod. Blackson was the national runner-up on vault with a score of 9.925, the highest vault score ever by a Bronco at nationals.

Blackson's second-place finish at the 2023 National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships stands alone in Boise State history as the highest vault score at nationals – the list of achievements is grand.

Following the Mountain West Champions' tight loss to BYU in the opening round, Blackson was one of four Boise State gymnasts to reach the second round of the 2024 NCAA Regional Championships. Adriana Popp, Emma Loyim and Emily Lopez also competed in Fayetteville as individuals.

The NCAA Championships are scheduled for April 18 through April 20 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. Blackson is slated to compete at 2:30 p.m. MT on Thursday, April 18, in the first session of the semifinals.

Nationals consist of eight teams, four all-around competitors and 16 event specialists from outside of a qualifying team. The individual qualifiers on bars include Blackson, Carley Bauman (Michigan), Mara Titarsolej (Missouri) and Jada Mangahas (Arizona State). Blackson, Bauman and Titarsolej each scored a 9.950 at their respective regional.

The team competition includes Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, LSU, Oklahoma, Stanford and Utah. For more information on the 2024 National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships, click here.
