BOISE, Idaho — The pride of Boise High School is set to take center stage Tuesday as one of 24 girls basketball seniors nationwide selected to play in the 2024 McDonald's All American Game.
Avery Howell, the back-to-back Gatorade Idaho Player of the Year, will represent the west squad at 4:30 p.m. MT Tuesday on ESPN2 inside the Toyota Center in Houston.
The 6-foot forward is just the second Idahoan to ever earn a spot in the county's top prep hoops showcase, joining former Mountain View star Destiny Slocum. Howell is a five-star recruit, ranked as the nation's No. 23 prospect in the class of 2024 by ESPN.
The Idaho native has already made some noise in Houston during the event. On Monday night, she finished in third place in the Powerade Jam Fest three-point shootout with 18 points. Howell battled with UConn commit Allie Ziebell, who went on to win the contest with 21 points.
Howell is in the Lone Star State with fellow USC signees Kennedy Smith and Kayleigh Heckel, who will head to Southern California to play in the Big Ten Conference.
The 5A Southern Idaho Conference Player of the Year considered the likes of Duke, Indiana, Utah and Washington before signing her national letter of intent with the Trojans.
Howell averaged 21.2 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.9 steals per game to lead the Brave to a 24-2 overall record and third-place finish at the state tournament. She also helped Boise win its third district title in a row.
The rosters for the 2024 McDonald's All American Games were announced during ESPN's NBA Today in January. The girls game is followed by the boys game at 7 p.m. MT Tuesday on ESPN.
