Too pool for school: Boise pools plan to open May 31

The Boise pools usually open when school gets out, but the city needed more time to properly staff the pools.

BOISE, Idaho — School is out for most kids in the Treasure Valley and that usually means the city pools are open as well. This year, Boise pools are opening a little late, on May 31. Boise Parks and Rec Director Doug Holloway said they needed more time to get the pools staffed and operational.

"We generally try to open those up at the same time that the Boise and West Ada Schools are out of school.  But each year it seems like the schools get out a little bit earlier and earlier each time, and so for us to make sure we're staffed up properly, that we have all of our safety protocols in place that we're ready to roll," Holloway said.

People can still visit pools in surrounding areas, although Holloway acknowledged the out-of-school to pool pipeline is iconic.

"The right of passage for summer really does start when all the public city pools open up," he said.
