BOISE — Police are warning people in east Boise to be on high alert after a mountain lion sighting there Thursday morning.

Officers responded to the report near the 3700 block of Sweet Pea Court.

The witness told officers she saw the mountain lion walk through her property and head east.

Although officers could not locate the animal, Idaho Fish and Game has been notified and Boise Police officers will continue to monitor the area.

According to wildlife experts, wild animals generally try to avoid human contact, so if you spot a wild animal do not attempt to feed, catch or pet it.

Some other suggestions:

  • Do not leave small children or pets outside unattended.
  • Install motion-sensitive lighting around the house.
  • Don't allow pets outside around dawn, dusk and at night as mountain lions are most active during those times.
  • Also bring pet food inside to avoid attracting raccoons, possums and other potential mountain lion prey.
