Navy flyers training with Idaho Air National Guard this week

BOISE, Idaho — Navy jets are flying with the Idaho Air National Guard this week.

Eleven F-18s arrived at Gowen Field late last week.

The naval aviators, based in Virginia, began training with A-10s from Idaho's 124th Fighter Wing Tuesday.

Wing Commander Col. Tim Donnellan says it's critical to train with units from other services in order to maintain combat readiness.

"This type of training is invaluable in order to establish interoperability before we partner in combat," he said.

The Idaho Air National Guard says eight F-18s and six A-10s will fly once in the late afternoon and once in the evening -- no later than 10 p.m. -- between Gowen Field and the military operating areas south of Boise.

"Whenever we host aircraft at Gowen Field, a major concern is the potential impact on our community," Donnellan added. "We always anticipate a flight line louder than normal anytime we host additional aircraft, but we owe it to our neighbors to mitigate those impacts as much as possible.  Anyone with concerns is encouraged to call us so we can address them directly."
