ELMORE COUNTY -- A group of hikers is safe after getting lost and spending the night in the Danskin Mountains this weekend.

According to the Elmore County Sheriff's Office, one of the hikers called 911 at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, telling dispatchers they had gotten lost the day before and were out of water. In addition, the hiker said, one member of the group was having a medical emergency.

Deputies, Elmore County Search and Rescue, and Elmore Ambulance Service began searching the mountains between Boise and Mountain Home, using GPS coordinates from the cellphone to establish a general search area. Teams used off-road vehicles and a drone to look for the missing group.

While the search was going on, the hiker called 911 again, telling dispatchers the ill person's condition had gotten worse. A LifeFlight helicopter was then dispatched to help look for the hikers.

The group was ultimately located, treated and airlifted to safety.
