Coroner identifies teen who drowned in Boise River near Star

Ada County Coroner Dotti Owens said the 16-year-old boy died from accidental drowning.

BOISE — A 16-year-old boy who drowned in the Boise River near Star last week has been identified as Rigoberto Alvarenca-Coello.

Ada County Coroner Dotti Owens said in a news release on Wednesday that Alvarenca-Coello died from accidental drowning.

The teen was swimming with friends in the river near Main Street and Star Road on July 29 when he went missing. Investigators say his friends searched for several hours before calling 911.

Alvarenca-Coello's body was found the next day by the Ada County Sheriff's Office Dive Team.
