BOISE, Idaho — The Boise Airport was selected Thursday as "Airport of the Year" during the Air Line Pilots Association's yearly air safety forum in Washington D.C.

Boise's airport was picked because of its track record of making safety a top priority and soliciting feedback from pilots and other aviation professionals, ALPA said in a release.

“The Boise Airport team clearly understands the importance of staying ahead of the safety curve at all times,” ALPA President Capt. Joe DePete said in a statement. “The airport proactively solicits ALPA pilots’ expertise and feedback on numerous issues, which ultimately helps mitigate potential operational issues down the road. Boise Airport is a stellar aviation safety partner, and ALPA commends its proactive and collaborative operating philosophy.”

The group gave a nod to the expanding growth in the Treasure Valley, predicting the Boise Airport will grow to a mid-sized airport within a few years. Officials in Boise have reached out to ALPA for input on the airport's master plan for growth, creating a collaborative effort that underscores BOI's commitment to safety, according to the organization.

The expansion plan is slated to include an additional concourse, as well as two more parking garages.
