Blue Cross employees raise money for charity with rubber duck derby

Blue Cross of Idaho employees sent a sea of rubber duckies bobbing down the creek that cuts through their campus Wednesday - all for a good cause.

MERIDIAN, Idaho — Blue Cross of Idaho employees sent a sea of rubber duckies bobbing down the creek that cuts through their campus Wednesday - all for a good cause.

The rubber duck float was part of the company's annual Employee Giving Campaign.

Nick Jezierny, an employee and member of the Giving Campaign committee, said the campaign had raised more than $150,000 by Wednesday morning.

"We ask employees to show their true generosity, and every year they come through," Jezierny said.

Employees had the option to purchase a duck for $5, then let it loose in the creek. The owners of the first ducks to hit the "finish line" were awarded prizes, with the first-place winner scoring an iPad and naming rights to the creek.

The money raised will be distributed to non-profits throughout Idaho.

"We have great people who work here and care about what we do, and this whole week shows that," Jezierny said.
