BOISE, Idaho — Canyon County has settled a lawsuit brought by a man who said the county illegally refused to let him post bond because officials were suspicious about his citizenship status.

Senobio Padilla-Arredondo’s civil rights lawsuit was dismissed by a federal judge on Wednesday in light of the settlement agreement.

The terms of the settlement were not included in court documents and Canyon County officials have not yet responded to a public records request seeking the settlement terms.

The case began when Padilla-Arredondo was arrested in January of 2016 and charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence. He said his spouse tried to pay his bond three times - starting on the day of his arrest - but each time was turned away by county. He says the county illegally forced him to remain in jail for weeks until the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement lodged an immigration detainer in March.
