BOISE — The Boise State football team is ranked No. 22 in the 2018 Amway Preseason Coaches Poll, which was released on Thursday.

Coincidentally, the Broncos finished last season ranked 22nd in the coaches poll. Boise State did not appear in the top 25 until the final week of the regular season in 2017. The Broncos dropped out of the ranking after a late-November loss at Fresno State.

But after winning the Mountain West Championship, then knocking off Oregon 38-28 in the Las Vegas Bowl, the Broncos finished the season at No. 22.

This is the first time since 2015 that Boise State has been ranked in the preseason coaches poll. They started 5-1 that year and climbed as high as No. 20, however, following a mid-October, 52-26, upset loss at Utah State, the Broncos fell out of the top 25 and never returned.

Boise State is currently the highest-ranked Group of 5 team, edging No. 23 UFC by two points. Florida Atlantic is the next closest non-Power 5 team. The Owls received 35 points, which puts them eight spots outside the top 25.

At the moment, No. 25 Oklahoma State is the only opponent on Boise State's 2018 schedule that is ranked in the coaches poll. However, Troy, San Diego State and Fresno State were all in the receiving votes column.

Boise State has been ranked for at least one week in either the Associated Press Top 25 or the Coaches Poll in every season since 2002. They are also 101-16 all-time when ranked in the top 25 of one of the three major polls.
