McAlister, rugged defense lead Boise State in 32-7 victory over Wyoming

Boise State's defense allowed just 112 total yards in the win, while Eric McAlister tallied 160 yards of his own. Wyoming is now 0-9 against the Broncos on The Blue.

BOISE, Idaho — Maddux Madsen threw for 147 yards with a touchdown, the Boise State defense allowed only 112 yards and the Broncos defeated Wyoming 32-7 on Saturday.

Starting quarterback Taylen Green threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Eric McAlister and a two-point conversion gave the Broncos an early 8-0 lead. Madsen came on in the second quarter with the Broncos (4-4, 3-1 Mountain West) leading 8-7.

Green started the second half and his 9-yard touchdown run gave the Broncos a 22-7 lead early in the third quarter. Madsen, who completed 12 of 15 passes, hit Prince Strachan with a short touchdown pass later in the third and the Broncos led 29-7.

John Michael Gyllenborg caught a 19-yard pass from Andrew Peasley in the first quarter for the only score for Wyoming (5-3, 2-2). Peasley was 10-of-20 passing for 83 yards.

Green was 3 of 6 through the air for 69 yards. George Holani led Boise State with 75 yards rushing in his first game back since the season opener at Washington.

Head coach Andy Avalos after the game said Holani got more work than originally anticipated due to sophomore standout Ashton Jeanty having to leave the game. Avalos said the Broncos "don't believe it's anything that's going to keep (Jeanty) out too long."

Linebacker Andrew Simpson led the Broncos with 6 total tackles and 3 tackles-for-loss, including a sack. The Cowboys posted just 27 rushing yards on 24 attempts, for an average of 1.1 yards per rush.

Wyoming averaged 2.5 yards per play while allowing 6.2 yards per play to Boise State. Prior to Saturday's win, the Broncos ranked 113th among FBS teams in total defense, surrendering 428.3 yards per outing.

The Cowboys leave the City of Trees still in search of their first-ever win on The Blue. Boise State has now won seven-straight games against Wyoming and touts an all-time record of 17-1 in the series.

Starting a tough final stretch of Mountain West games, the victory was big for the Broncos and especially Avalos following the bye. Boise State is back at .500 and the third-year head coach improves to 16-4 in conference games at the helm, including a perfect 3-0 mark over Wyoming.

The Broncos hit the road next to square off with Fresno State at 8 p.m. MT on Saturday, Nov. 4. The Cowboys return to Laramie to play host to Colorado State at 6 p.m. MT on Friday, Nov. 3.
