BOISE - Former ESPN reporter Heather Cox will join NBC Sports full-time in August, making her debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she will serve as a volleyball reporter, NBC announced on Wednesday.

Cox, who lives in Boise, will also report from the sidelines for NBC's new Thursday Night Football series, and will work on the Golf Channel as a news reporter for select golf events.

Cox spent 22 years with ESPN, where she worked as sideline reporter on many high profile games, including the last four national championship games. She also covered other sports including the NBA, WNBA, women's college basketball, golf, soccer, and volleyball.

"We are excited to add Heather, a big-game reporter, to our Thursday Night Football team," said Sam Flood, Executive Producer of NBC Sports, in a statement. "She did an excellent job at three previous Summer Games with NBC, and appropriately, her first assignment is the Rio Olympics."

No stranger to volleyball, Cox was captain of the Sacramento Stars of the National Volleyball Association professional league from 1993-95. She was also a member of the U.S. National Volleyball Team.

Cox resides in Boise with her husband Bill and their two children, Aly and Will.
