NAMPA - A campaign mailer claims a Republican candidate for lieutenant governor of Idaho is a foreign agent and has other agents funneling cash into his campaign.
The Idaho Press-Tribune reports the flyer that reached Idaho voters Thursday shows Steve Yates in front of a Taiwan flag and implies he's concealing information.
The mailer also features excerpts from an email that Yates' wife sent in 2015 to a close friend, who died earlier this year.
The flyer was sent out by the PAC Idahoans Fighting Corruption.
In a statement, Yates calls out the backers of the political action committee, saying they violated his wife's privacy. Yates says he's "committed to waging a campaign based on issues, not insult."
