Western Idaho Fair ride soars to new heights

The new Sky Ride opens at the Western Idaho Fair on August 17.

The Western Idaho Fair opens on August 17 and the new Sky Ride has the fair soaring to new heights.

The Sky Ride resembles a ski lift, but at the fair.

It's about 1,300 feet, 74 cars and it goes about a mile and a half an hour.

The Sky Ride will take passengers about nine minutes to travel from one end of the fair to the other.

The new attraction will cost about $6 to ride.

Every person who purchases a ticket will get a wristband that allows them to ride the Sky Ride all day long.

"This has kind of been a long time coming and a dream of mine. I've taken the maiden voyage and I found it very exciting and very fun," Bob Batista, Western Idaho Fair Director, said. "This is going to be here for 30 years, that was part of the agreement. We get 20 percent of what they make, so the taxpayers don't feel any pain from this, the only thing you're going to feel is the joy when you ride across the fair on this ride."

The fair runs from August 17-26.

KTVB will be at the Western Idaho Fair during the annual KTVB Family Day at the fair on August 20.

KTVB Family Day is the only smoke-free and alcohol-free day during the fair.
