Scoring points for non-profits, the annual Turkey Bowl happened this Thanksgiving

With roughly 90 people in attendance, they helped raise money for The Boise Rescue Mission.

BOISE, Idaho — The 13th annual Do Work Realty's Turkey Bowl happened this Thursday morning at Rocky Mountain High School.

The annual event brought in about 90 people this Thanksgiving to raise money for the Boise Rescue Mission's Teens and Tweens program.

"They're a very overlooked populace when it comes to people who are homeless and or transitioning into lower income housing. A lot of times, there's a lot of focus on the youth with the Toys for Tots program," said Jeffrey Wills, the owner of Do Work Realty, and the founder of the Turkey Bowl.

The Teens and Tweens program at the Boise Rescue Mission is a year round program, helping youth connect with their community, apply and even visit colleges.

After growing up playing flag football on Thanksgiving, Wills grew into his 20's and realized he didn't have a game to go to.

That's when the Turkey Bowl came to fruition, 13 years ago.

"It just shows you how amazing people in the Treasure Valley really are when they come together," Wills said. "I'm just a little Kuna kid born and raised out there so to be able to breed this little seedling and see it take off, it's very, it's very fulfilling. Now I get to be around my kids doing it. When I started, I didn't have kids. Now they're here, they're a part of it. And hope is that this will continue to grow alongside them too."
