Photographer takes free photos for Idaho law enforcement

In the aftermath of shootings that targeted police in Dallas and Baton Rouge, Caldwell-based photographer Sarah Ledford wanted to turn all the negative attention surrounding the police force into something positive.

Ledford decided to take free photos all day Monday for law enforcement and their families at Kathryn Albertson Park.

Ledford knows the importance a family photo can have, when Ledford was eight she lost her mother who worked in law enforcement.

"I don't have a lot of memories of my mom, I don't have a lot of memories of my childhood at all, but that’s with me, I know my mom was a cop," said Ledford.

Law enforcers and their families showed up early to take a family photo with the hero in their family dressed in uniform.

Idaho State Trooper Jesse Avery smiled with his wife and three daughters, taking pictures in his uniform with his family for the first time.

"It feels good to have your family be proud of what you do, from feeling some support from the community," said Avery.

Jesse’s wife Melissa said recent events in Dallas and Baton Rouge made this opportunity emotional for her.

“We’re very proud of him and what he does and what he sacrifices every day so it means the world to us," she said.

Photographers across the country heard of the Boise event and followed suit.

“One of these events is being held in all 50 states,” said Ledford.

Ledford will be taking photos until 9 p.m. Monday for any law enforcement officers and their families at Kathryn Albertson Park in Boise.
