Nampa neighborhood welcomes new park

A group of excited kids got to cut the ribbon on a new Nampa park and playground Thursday morning.

NAMPA — It was an exciting day for one Nampa neighborhood as children got to celebrate a new park and playground at Hunter Park, just off of 3rd Street North.

Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling and an excited group of kids officially cut the ribbon to open the park Thursday morning.

Hunter Park is a small neighborhood park that is approximately one acre in size.

The new park features great shade from new trees, a new playground, an outdoor basketball court and some open areas with perfect green grass.

John Burkey, program supervisor with Nampa Parks and Recreation, says the city is always happy to offer new community gathering places for kids and families.

"We want them to have fun and to be able to be active in our community, and that starts at a young age. So to have great playgrounds like this for even the smallest kids to come out and play and enjoy themselves, that's important in every community," said Burkey.

The newly-constructed playground will replace an existing playground that was over 20 years old.

The new park was paid for by a community block grant of about $50,000.
