BOISE — A Meridian dog that was stolen and abandoned was recently reunited with her owner after an observant stranger noticed something didn't seem right.
The dog's owner now hopes others will learn from her experience.
Kona and her owner Sarah Kirste are now back together after Kona was dumped on South Stanley Street not far from Interstate 84 in Boise.
Kirste says after an argument with her roommates, one of them decided they were going to get back at her by taking her dog from their Meridian home and abandoning her in Boise.
As Kona was dumped on the dead-end road, a family watched a man drive off leaving the dog behind without her collar.
Luckily though Jessica and Sheldon Maklin recognized what was happening and jumped into action.
The Maklin's were able to take pictures as everything unfolded, which later helped the Idaho Humane Society and police piece everything together.
Kona is also micro-chipped, which helped get her home.
Her owner says she wants other pet owners to know just how helpful they are.
"Do it, it is worth it in the long run. If Kona wouldn't have had a microchip, I don't know if I would have gotten her back,” said Kirste.
The Meridian Police Department has charged the individual allegedly responsible for abducting Kona; he is now facing two misdemeanor charges.
Kirste says the whole situation was tough, but it is a reminder that there are good people out there that want to help.
She adds that she couldn't be more thankful that the Maklin family was able to help her and Kona get back to each other.
