March for Meals in Meridian raises thousands of dollars for food insecure seniors

More than 37,000 seniors in Idaho struggle with hunger and the walk helps raise money to help those in need.

MERIDIAN, Idaho — Over 1,000 marchers took to Kleiner Park on Saturday afternoon for this year's March for Meals.

The short walk raises money for seniors who are food insecure.

The Blue Cross of Idaho donated five dollars for every participant that attended the event. More than $5,000 was raised.

"It's very humbling to see the community support for our seniors, one in six seniors is food insecure, and we know that Meals on Wheels has proven a very viable solution to that issue," Grant Jones, the CEO of Metro Meals on Wheels, said. "So it's so gratifying to see all these people come out and support seniors and make sure that they have nutritious food."

More than 37,000 seniors in Idaho struggle with hunger.

Metro Meals on Wheels delivers and serves nearly 1,000 hot meals each weekday and more than 750 frozen meals on the weekends to help seniors in need.
