Local Synagogue Ahavath Beth Israel in Boise celebrates over 150 years in Idaho

Rabbi Dan Fink said Jewish people have been present in the Boise area since at least the 1860s.

BOISE, Idaho — For people that are not aware, there is a very rich history of the Jewish community in Idaho, more specifically in Boise. Rabbi Dan Fink of Ahavath Beth Israel in Boise said Jewish people have been present in the Boise area since at least the 1860s. Today, despite the ongoing conflict with Hamas and Israel,  the local synagogue celebrated over 150 years of being in Idaho.

To start off the festivities, the community gathered and listened to the history of the synagogue and how it made its way from its original home at 11th and State streets to its current campus on North Latah St. Music was played to honor the day and Boise Mayor Lauren Mclean was in attendance to declare Oct. 22  Congregation Ahavath Beth Israel History Day.

Along with the booths people were able to enjoy some holiday foods associated with those holidays and go through some history exhibits to learn about the history of the Jewish people in the Gem State.
