WATCH: Idaho police officer has 'close call' with semi-truck

To remind the public of road safety, the Idaho State Police shared a video of a trooper working when a semi-truck almost hit him.

BOISE, Idaho — To remind the public to slow down for flashing lights while driving on Idaho roads, Idaho State Police (ISP) shared a video from January that shows an officer nearly being hit by a semi-truck.

In a social media post made on Monday, March 4, ISP said that Trooper Rowley was working near Meridian when the incident happened. The video shows the officer sprinting from his squad car into the snow-covered median. Moments later, a truck and trailer barreled into the snow, sliding to a halt.

ISP said the semi-truck driver crashed because he wasn't paying attention and didn't see the road flares, lights and arrows.

"Move over for emergency vehicles—it's the law! When you spot flashing lights, slow down and change lanes safely," ISP said. "Your attention could mean the difference between life and death."

CLOSE CALL: A Heart-Stopping Moment on the Road! ISP troopers tirelessly keep our roadways safe, but even they face terrifying close calls. Trooper Rowley recently encountered a harrowing incident on I-84 near Meridian. Despite clear warnings - flares, lights, and arrows - an inattentive semi-driver swerved into the median to avoid hitting his vehicle. Thankfully, Trooper Rowley's quick reflexes saved the day, but it's a stark reminder of the dangers our first responders face. Remember: Move Over for emergency vehicles—it's the law! When you spot flashing lights, slow down and change lanes safely. Your attention could mean the difference between life and death. Join forces with all first responders across Idaho. Stay vigilant, move over, drive smart, and prioritize safety. Together, we can ensure everyone returns home to their loved ones! #thisishowweserve
