CAMBRIDGE, Idaho -- A Cambridge man is dead after crashing his snowmobile in Washington County Tuesday night.

The wreck happened at about  8:05 p.m. on private property just outside of Cambridge.

According to the sheriff's office, 44-year-old Doug Volle was unloading a snowmobile from a trailer when he hit a shipping container "at a high rate of speed." Volle died at the scene.

Volle's family told KTVB he was an experienced snowmobiler.

Sheriff Matt Thomas said witnesses to the wreck told deputies the snowmobile's throttle appeared to have gotten stuck, causing it to accelerate out of control.

The crash remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
