New elections building to be built in Canyon County

The $4.7 million project was funded by the Federal American Rescue Plan Act. It is expected to be completed later this year or early 2025.

CALDWELL, Idaho — The Board of Canyon County Commissioners held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday to celebrate the new elections building in Caldwell.

The 16,500-square foot facility is aimed to accommodate the county's growth and to provide essential upgrades to the current elections office. Officials said the $4.7 million project was funded by the Federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

Director of Facilities Rick Britton, county commissioners, the clerk’s office and the election staff collaborated to begin the project. County leadership said they have outgrown their building and a larger facility will allow them to store equipment safely, train poll workers and have a site for early voting.

Clerk Rick Hogaboam said Canyon County is the Gem State's second-largest county and one of the nation’s fastest-growing communities, emphasizing early voting and in-person training difficulties with the current facility.

"The new building will help make sure elections are run efficiently and securely in one of the fastest growing counties in the state." Hogaboam said.

The new elections building is located between the West Valley Humane Society and the DMV, along Graye Lane in Caldwell.

The project is estimated to be completed later this year or early 2025.
