Plunging for charity: Annual Polar Bear Challenge set for Jan. 6

Make-A-Wish Idaho will host the 21st annual Gebert-Arbaugh Polar Bear Challenge at Lucky Peak Reservoir on Saturday, Jan. 6.

BOISE, Idaho — Make-A-Wish® Idaho will host the 21st annual Gebert-Arbaugh Polar Bear Challenge at Lucky Peak Reservoir on Saturday, Jan. 6, to help raise money for wishes.

The Polar Bear Challenge will begin at 11 a.m., with registration at 10 a.m. at Spring Shores Marina.

The fundraising goal for the 2024 event is $66,000. Either teams or individuals can raise pledge money by "promising to dive into the chilly waters in support of wishes," Make-A-Wish said.

For those not too keen on getting in the water, they can support wishes by donating money to a team or directly to Make-A-Wish. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards wishes.

"We are granting more wishes than we've ever granted in our thirty-eight-year history," Director of Development Helene Peterson said. "Whether you love it, hate it or are indifferent to it, Idaho has grown a lot in the past few years and so has the need for wishes. Support from participants of the Polar Bear Challenge will help us grant wishes when these children need them the most. Wishes provide such a positive emotional boost to kids fighting cancer, leukemia or other serious illnesses."
