Fundraiser benefits injured Meridian police officer

Kyle Mikowski is recovering after being shot twice in the legs. He's been unable to work on the family's ranch since being shot. Donation are going toward a tractor that will allow him to help with the ranch work.

MERIDIAN — Meridian Police Officer Kyle Mikowski was shot and hurt while on duty last month.

He was with other Meridian officers trying to conduct a felony warrant traffic stop when the suspect ran away on foot and opened fire at officers.

Mikowski was shot twice in the legs but managed to return fire, killing the suspect.

Officer Mikowski is recovering well, but he and his family are struggling to run their ranch.

Since being shot, he hasn't been able to help out with daily tasks there.

So to help make the family's life a little easier, the Meridian Police Department hosted a fundraiser Saturday at The Village at Meridian.

The money raised will buy a tractor for the family to use on their ranch.

"It's totally overwhelming to get this type of support from the community, from local businesses," said Corporal Kevin Wilson with the Meridian Police Dept. "I know Kyle is totally overwhelmed with all the support - his wife - they're very grateful, as are we."

Funds raised beyond the cost of the tractor will support the Fallen Officer Fund.

If you would like to help out, but didn't make it to the fundraising event, the Meridian Police Department has set up a GoFundMe page.
