Flames seen leaping from garage in Meridian house fire

All the people in the house got out safely, but two cats inside the garage are feared lost.

MERIDIAN, Idaho — The garage of a Meridian home was badly damaged after a fire broke out inside early Friday morning.

The fire started at about 4:45 a.m. at a home on Silver Elm Way, near Willow Creek Elementary.

A neighbor told KTVB he went outside and spotted the fire after hearing pops or explosions coming from the house.

Both Meridian Fire and Eagle Fire responded, with firefighters reporting flames jumping 50 feet high when they first arrived on scene.

Fire crews were able to knock down the fire and keep it from spreading, and the rest of the house is O.K., officials say.

All the people in the house got out safely, but two cats inside the garage are feared dead, according to firefighters.
