Festival of Trees celebrating 36 years of great causes

The event has raised more than $10 million to improve health care in the community over the years.

BOISE, Idaho — A holiday favorite is returning to Boise this week.

Saint Alphonsus is celebrating its 36th anniversary of the Festival of Trees.

The event has raised more than $10 million to improve health care in the community over the years.

This year, funds raised will support the Women's Mobile Outreach Program, which will bring screening tools to rural communities to test for cancer in its earliest stages.

"It's lifesaving technology, 3D. It can find things that the 2D hasn't been able to find in the past. So women aren't having to go back and have another check, which is high anxiety with that. And they can catch it early, that's huge," said co-chair Cindy Williams.

Events will kick off Tuesday night with the black-tie gala.

That will be followed by senior day on Wednesday, KTVB's sponsored family day on Saturday, and will wrap up on Monday with the fashion show.

Special attractions throughout the week include visits with Santa, a scavenger hunt for kids, and live performances by local dance groups, choirs and musicians.
