BPD: Man in custody after boarding Boise school bus with gun

Police say he was "under the influence of drugs or alcohol" and boarded the bus "attempting to get a ride to an unknown location."

BOISE, Idaho — A Meridian man under the influence of drugs or alcohol boarded a Boise School District school bus Thursday morning with a gun and drugs in his backpack, according to the Boise Police Department (BPD).

Police identified the suspect as Tristiano Fragomeno, 19, from Meridian.

Fragomeno got on one of the Boise School District (BSD) buses bound for North Jr. High and Boise High schools. The bus was near downtown Boise when Fragomeno boarded the bus in an attempt to get a ride to an unknown location, according to BPD.

At 7:30 a.m., while in route to North Jr. High School, the bus driver took notice of the suspect and alerted school officials. Upon arrival at the school, the appointed school resource officer (SRO), along with school administrators, met the suspect as he was getting off the bus -- detaining him and confirming that he was indeed not a BSD student.

According to Boise police, Fragomeno attempted to flee on foot as officers searched his belongings -- where they discovered a stolen firearm and drugs. He did not have a knife as previously reported.

BPD said that evidence suggests Fragomeno was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident.

After the brief pursuit, police apprehended the suspect and took him into custody. Fragomeno was then booked into Ada County Jail and charged with the following:

  • Theft-Grand (F)
  • Controlled Substance-Possession of (F)
  • Weapon-Carry Concealed While Under the Influence (M)
  • Weapon-Possessing Weapons or Firearms on School Property (M)
  • Arrests & Seizures-Resisting or Obstructing Officers (M)

No students were harmed. However, North Jr. High and Boise High are providing support to students who witnessed the event. The Boise School District (BSD)released a statement to parents Thursday morning informing them of the situation.

According to BSD, they are investigating the incident. They said they will review and improve current protocols to help prevent a situation like this from happening in the future.

BPD is conducting an investigation into the individual's motives.

The school district requests that any questions or concerns go to the Boise School District Administrative Office at 208-854-4000.

If you have any information regarding the incident, Boise Police Department ask that it reported by calling 208-377-6790.
