Boulder the size of a large boulder removed after blocking Highway 21

The highway has since reopened. ITD officials wanted to remind the public to always be prepared for the unexpected when in rural Idaho.

BOISE, Idaho — Over the weekend, a boulder the size of a large boulder was removed after officials were forced to shut down the road due to the size of the boulder. No "Wile E. Coyotes" or drivers were injured.

Officials with the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) want to remind drivers in this Gem of a state not to take the highway for granite.

ITD said on social media that the boulder fell Sunday night, closing State Highway 21. In the morning, officials worked to remove the rock and patch the road to reopen it.

Officials wanted to remind drivers to be always prepared for the unexpected and check the 511 for road conditions before embarking on a new adventure.

LOOK AT THIS: Thankfully our Lowman maintenance team was quick to act and closed SH-21 Sunday night when it happened....
