Coroner identifies fisherman who drowned in the Snake River

The man was fishing near Swan Falls Dam when he fell from a dock, officials say.

MURPHY, Idaho — The Ada County coroner has released the identity of a man who drowned in the Snake River. He is Aaron James Link, 42, of Ontario, Oregon.

Dive teams found the man's body after he fell into the Snake River at about 3 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the Ada County Sheriff's Office, Link was fishing from a dock around 1 a.m. Sunday and nearby campers called 911 around 1:30 a.m. after they heard the sound of someone calling for help in the river and struggling in the water.

Investigators say they found fishing supplies, including a fishing pole, tackle box and other things at the end of the dock with no one around when deputies arrived on the scene.

Police then found a man sleeping in a nearby truck, afterward, deputies spoke to the man and they figured out the man on the end of the dock was the one that fell into the Snake River.

Dive teams with Boise Fire, an air ambulance helicopter, Kuna Fire and the sheriff's office performed "extensive" searches for the missing man, according to a sheriff's office spokesman.

On Tuesday, dive teams started the search for the fisherman again and found his body later on in the day.
