5 children among dead in catastrophic Burns collision

The youngest victim was just two years old.

BURNS, Ore. — The eight people killed in a horrific head-on crash on Oregon Route 78 Tuesday include five children under the age of 12, Oregon State Police said.

The wreck happened just before 3:30 p.m. near Burns in eastern Oregon.

According to investigators, 48-year-old Mark Robert Rundell of Prairie City, Oregon was driving east, when he veered across the centerline and hit an oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the other SUV was identified as 29-year-old Erika Carter Boquet of Tacoma, Washington. The passengers in Boquet's vehicle were 28-year-old Kyla Marie Brown of Olympia, Washington, 11-year-old Isabella Earlene Boquet, 10-year-old Arianna Marie Brown, 8-year-old Elisabeth Ann Boquet, 6-year-old Tytis Michael Boquet, and 2-year-old Xavier King Johnson.

No one in either vehicle survived the crash. Oregon State Police say all eight died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
